Traditional fishing boat moored at the Marsalforn harbor on the island of Gozo, Malta. Although Marsalforn has a population of fewer than 1,000 permanent residents, that changes dramatically in summer. From June to September, the town transforms into the most popular tourist resort on the island. Foreign tourists and Maltese locals flock to this northern town to relax on the broad sandy beach and swim in the calm, warm sea. The town also has the distinction of being the best place to go diving in Gozo due to the clarity of the water and the diversity and beauty of the underwater geography.
An interesting side-note regarding Marsalforn’s place in history. The Bible tells of Paul the Apostle being shipwrecked on what is now called the island of Malta. But legend maintains that it was from Marsalforn that he departed when he sailed for Sicily and Rome.
